Some children learn better in a small, intimate setting where they develop one-on-one relationships with teachers and other students. IKARON Learning at the Jewish Collaborative of Orange County (JCoOC) provides a warm and informal Jewish learning experience for children, age 5-12.
Since November IKARON Learning at JCoOC has been meeting on Sunday mornings, from 9 to 11 a.m., at private homes in and around Irvine. Two instructors, each with more than 30 years’ experience teaching in a Jewish day school setting, teach Judaic studies and Hebrew K-3 and 4-7 students.
There are periodic special enrichment programs, such as Mrs. ReadForFun, offered by an educator who introduces and reads from Jewish books and discusses them with the children. Rabbi Marcia Tilchin will also offer Pre-B’nai Mitzvah workshops for grades 5-7 and parents on designated Sundays.
Students can join the program at any time during the year.
Founded in 2016, JCoOC helps to build communities of interest for OC Jewish families. From family-friendly Shabbat services to field trips for young families to fun, engaging activities for kids at High Holidays, JCoOC is a place for OC families to “feel the joy of Jewish.”
All programs — for families and other audiences – are offered “a la carte” – Friday night musical Shabbat programs in Laguna Beach, Saturday morning Shabbat services in Newport Beach, holiday activities and services, an arts initiative, community learning programs and the school. JCoOC also partners with other Jewish community programs or helps people to find them.
